How to make great product decisions

Every product is the result of hundreds of cumulative decisions. Yet cross-functional teams often aren’t aligned on what a “good” decision even is. One person’s MVP can be another’s design debt nightmare. So how can a UX team influence product decisions to meet company goals AND user needs? In this session you'll see how a group of 19th century American philosophers promoted the use of assumptions to make decisions quickly. You'll take lessons from mountaineering accidents in the UK on how to make the right kind of decisions.  And you’ll learn real-world examples of frameworks and processes for product decision-making at a foundational level.

Andy Healey was UX Lead on the Checkout team at Shopify, where he led a team of designers on Shopify's highest priority project; to rebuild checkout from the ground up. The result is the best converting checkout in the world, used by over half a billion shoppers. If you’ve shopped online recently, then the work his team did has probably helped you to check out smoothly. A long-time advocate for ethical and inclusive design, Andy built design ethics into the foundations of his team and processes. More recently, he took a sabbatical to travel round the world and has just completed his debut novel. Currently he is a Content Design Manager at Autodesk.
